Ice Block Construction

We finally had an opportunity to build with the ice blocks we have been making since January. The Nursery School children already began a huge Ice Fort so we added more on to it.

Gathering snow that will be used to help the ice blocks stick together.

Using cooperation and our upper body strength to carry the container full of snow over to the Ice Fort.

Showing patience and determination trying to open the milk cartons which contain our ice blocks.

Discussing what to build and listening to each other's ideas.

We worked together to make "this computer".

Realizing the snow isn't enough to get the blocks to stick....

...so we got a spray bottle to spritz each block with water.

That works!! Everyone wants to help. That means we need to listen to one another and follow instructions.

We need to take turns building. The blocks need to be added one at a time.

"Can you spray water for me before I put my block on?"

Fitting the block carefully into place and feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment when finished.

Attempting to spray the water and fit the block in at the same time. Then realizing it's okay
to ask for help.

Showing creativity and deciding to turn a block a different way so it would fit.

Now it's time to work on the other side. We finished just in time for lunch. Our Ice Fort will
need to sit all weekend so the snow, water and blocks freeze together and our walls
become solid. We look forward to playing in it next week.

  1. Wow, I love the long drawn out project and the many things children learn about things that don't ha[[en instantly. The creative solution for sticking the blocks together was such a good idea. Great problem solvers everyone.
