Sun exposure nature paper

Today was a perfect day to use all of the nature items we have found on our Thursday field trips.
The sun was shining which made our art activity very easy!

The teachers had found sun exposure paper, which is a type of light sensitive paper that imprints the shadows of anything on top of the paper.

We used feathers, leaves, bark, fox tails, wild flowers, babies breath, and many other items that we did not know the names of.

The first thing we did was lay out our design.

Next we put the papers in the sun for two minutes.

While we waited we talked about what we thought was going to happen to the paper.

"It will melt!"
"It will change colour"

Once the two minutes were up we moved the paper back into the shade, and removed all the items off the paper. We were very surprised to see what had happened.

"The paper will turn white!"

We also needed to put the paper in water once we got them inside and out of the sun.

The children noticed that the paper turned white in the sun and the shadows was dark blue.

But when they started to dry the colours changed. The paper was dark blue and the shadows were white!

Such a neat activity, where the children could to show their creativity and use their clever minds to guess what was going happen to the paper.
